The psychology B.A. program provides students with a broad understanding of human behavior and mental processes. It emphasizes the historical development of the discipline along with contemporary perspectives, research literacy, and clear communication. Through coursework in major subfields-such as social, personality, cognitive, developmental, and clinical psychology-along with training in statistics and research methods, students learn to understand psychological principles from a variety of theoretical orientations. The program highlights psychology’s relevance to diverse communities and encourages the practical application of psychology to real-world experience. Graduates are well prepared for entry-level positions in fields such as mental health, education, human services, business, criminal justice, and community outreach, as well as for advanced study in psychology, counseling, and related professions.

University-Required Courses for the B.A.: 12 Credits
The University requires that all Dul Ross students intending to earn a B.A. must complete the one-credit-hour First Year Seminar, one course in advanced English composition, and two courses in foreign language. Courses in the Major Field of Psychology: 36 Credits
Courses in the Major Field of Psychology (B.A.) 36 sch This includes 12 credit hours in four courses required of all psychology majors, plus an additional 24 credit hours of psychology courses that students select based on their particular interests. At least 36 of the 120 total credit hours must be taken from upper-division courses (junior- and senior- level courses with 3000- and 4000- level course numbers. Theses are sometimes referred to as ‘advanced courses’. For students who are transfer students, at least 15 of the 36 upper-division credit hours must be completed at Sul Ross, and at least 30 total credit hours must be completed at Sul Ross. In order to graduate, all students must have at least a 2.0 GPA in the major, in the minor, and overall. Required Core Courses: 12 Credits
These are the required core courses for the B.A. in Psychology. Elective Courses in Psychology: 24 Credits
Beyond the four required psychology courses, each psychology major must complete an additional 24 credit hours of elective psychology courses (typically eight courses), 9 hours of which must be at the 3000 or 4000 level, which individual students select based on their particular interests. Minor Required: 18 Credit Hours
All psychology majors must select a minor field and complete 18 hourses of coursework in that field. Nine of those hours must be from upper level courses. General Elective Courses
A general elective course is any course which students choose to take that is not specifically required to satisfy the requirements of their major, minor, core curriculum, or degree. Electives gives students some flexibility to take courses to expliore personal interests, develop additional skills, or deepen their knowledge in areas not covered by required coursework.
