Sul Ross State University Alpine and Sul Ross State University International accept applications for admission from students of accredited secondary schools and students transferring from accredited colleges without regard to race, color, sex, age, religious commitment, or national origin. Sul Ross State University requires the same academic standards and applies the same criteria in considering applications for admission as it uses in the retention of students who are enrolled.
To be consistent with this policy, the University reserves the right to refuse the acceptance of prospective or former students who are on disciplinary suspension, expulsion from any college or university, or who have committed other serious offenses, which are likely to have an adverse effect on the University. The personal standards of conduct expected of students who enroll at Sul Ross State University are provided in the Student Code of Conduct contained in the Student Handbook.
Dual Credit Student (Early Admissions)
A Dual Credit student is defined as a high school student or high school equivalent student who enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both Sul Ross State University and the partnering high school. The Office of Admissions, Dual Credit division, works closely with high school administration and high school counselors to create a smooth transition to university admission. Though a designated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), SRSU creates a personalized process that best meets university, high school, and student needs. Dual credit inquiries can be referred to dualcredit@sulross.edu.
Dual Credit/Home School Student
Home school students that are seeking to graduate from a non-traditional high school system, will be required to submit the following:
Upon admission as a dual credit student, the home school student will need to show proof of college readiness either by TSI Placement Exams or satisfied exemption waiver.
Undergraduate Freshman Student
A freshman student is defined as an individual that has not attempted college hours after high school graduation. The student must have graduated from an accredited high school on the foundation or recommended graduation program, or satisfied all required coursework as defined by the State Board of Education.
For admission, a high school class rank is required. If the high school does not rank, the Office of Admissions will assign a class rank based on the directives of SB 1543.
Admission Requirements:
- Applications can be submitted via Apply Texas at www.applytexas.org.
- Request a high school transcript (note: Final, official high school transcripts will be required after the admissions decision, showing the graduation date to complete enrollment requirements.)
- Sul Ross State University is a test-optional institution, meaning we no longer require SAT or ACT scores for admissions decisions. SAT or ACT scores are encouraged to be sent for TSI exemption purposes.
A freshman student who has attempted college/university course work while enrolled in high school or in the semester prior to entering Sul Ross State University must request official transcripts(s) showing the completion of all hours to complete enrollment requirements.

Non-Traditional High School Graduate
Sul Ross State University will consider students graduating from non-traditional high schools for admission. A high school class rank is required. If your high school does not rank, the Office of Admissions will assign you a class rank based on the directives of SB 1543.
GED Recipients
Sul Ross State University admits qualified students who have earned their GED and submit the following documentation:

- Official copy of GED certificate or score report.
Transfer Student
A transfer student is defined as an undergraduate student who has attempted transferable academic course work from an accredited college or university. “Transferable academic course work” is defined as attempted hours of course work which are applicable to a baccalaureate degree program.
Undergraduate students who transfer to Sul Ross State University from another regionally accredited college or university with less than 12 transferable academic hours must meet the standards of beginning freshman students (see Beginning Freshman Students above) and must provide the following documentation:

- Request to have official transcript(s) from all accredited colleges and universities attended sent directly to Sul Ross State University.
- Final official High school transcript or GED certificate showing receipt of high school diploma equivalency.

Undergraduate students who transfer to Sul Ross State University from another regionally accredited college or university with 12 or more transferable academic hours must provide the following documentation:

Official transcript(s) indicating the completion of 12 or more transferable academic hours (excluding developmental, remedial, vocational, technical, continuing education, or lifelong learning courses). College/university transcripts are provided to the Office of the Registrar for articulation which will determine overall GPA percentage. Enrollment Management will review final reports and issue an admission decision.
Returning SRSU Undergraduate Student
All returning Sul Ross State University students not enrolled for at least one long semester (Fall or Spring) must provide the following documentation to be considered for admission:

- Request to have official transcript(s) from all accredited colleges and universities attended after enrollment at Sul Ross State University.

Academic Probation
A student who leaves Sul Ross State University on academic probation is readmitted as such, even if the student has attended another institution after leaving and returning to Sul Ross State University.
Academic Suspension
A student who leaves Sul Ross State University on academic suspension will be directed to the Office of the Registrar for additional steps to appeal, if applicable.
Undergraduate F-1 International Student
Undergraduate F-1 International students are non-immigrant international students who enter the United States temporarily to pursue full-time academic studies.
International F-1 freshman students who have graduated from a high school outside the U.S. must provide the following:
- Submit the Admission application through www.applytexas.org.
- Submit official transcripts for translation and evaluation via SpanTran: The Evaluation Company. (SpanTran will not send requested evaluations and translations until full payment has been received and all official transcripts are issued directly from the student’s institutions.)
International incoming freshmen who are graduating from a high school outside the U.S. must provide an official high school transcript directly to SpanTran from their institution, preferably via email.
International transfer students who attended a college/university outside the U.S. must provide an official transcript directly to SpanTran from each institution, preferably via email.
International transfer students who attended a college/university in the U.S. must request to have official transcript(s) from all accredited colleges and universities attended sent directly to Sul Ross State University.

Student F1 Visa Requirements
In addition to admission requirements, F-1 international students must provide additional requirements to abide by the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, or SEVIS, regulations. These requirements are to be submitted and reviewed by the Primary Designation School Official, or PDSO. These requirements will determine their admission decision and F-1 VISA qualifications.
The following F-1 VISA requirements are as follows:
- Proof of Financial Support- This may be satisfied by an Affidavit of Support (Immigration Service Form I-134) or a signed statement from a U.S. citizen or foreign national committing the necessary resources in U.S. dollars for student’s expenses, such as by providing a current balance statement from an accredited banking institution. This amount shown should cover a year of tuition and fees, plus the cost of returning home, if necessary. Tuition, fees, and costs of living are approximately $35,000 USD for a whole academic year (Out-of-State Tuition).
- Medical History Report - An official letter from physician showing applicant’s current state of health and clearance for applicant to travel to and study within the United States.
- Evidence of English language proficiency as demonstrated by any of the following:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report - 69 Internet based; 190 Computer Based; 520 Paper Based.
- International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP ) -Academic Score of 3.5-3.9 or greater.
English Language Proficiency Admission Requirement Waiver Qualifications:
- Completion of six credit hours in Freshman English with a grade of C or better.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university.
- Prospective students may petition the Dean of the College in which the major resides in writing requesting an individual oral assessment of English proficiency. Applicants granted an interview will be notified of the date and time. The interview panel must deem the applicant’s oral English proficiency adequate to successfully complete the program. The interview panel will file the results of the assessment Office of Admission to PDSO.
To ensure that all undergraduate admission and immigration papers are in order, international students are required to visit the PDSO immediately upon arrival on campus.
Transient and Non-Degree Seeking Student
A transient student pursues a degree at another institution with the intent of taking transferable courses and completing their degree.
Transient students must provide the following documentation:
- Submit the Admission application through www.applytexas.org.
- Request to have official transcript(s) from all accredited colleges and universities attended sent directly to Sul Ross State University.
The applicant must present an official transcript showing good standing from the college that the student is pursuing a degree, and proof of compliance with TSI or college readiness requirements. Transient admission is granted for a maximum of twenty-four semester credit hours. Credit earned as a transient student may be applied toward a degree at Sul Ross State University after regular admission is granted.
Probationary Admission
All undergraduate applicants that do meet full admission may be considered for probationary admission on an individual basis. After admission decisions have been issued, students are provided with available resources to further support student success and next steps. Also, providing direct contact information to the Offices of Financial Aid, Student Support Services, Academic Advising, and Counseling and Accessibility Services.
Undergraduate Admissions Appeal
An applicant who has been denied admission may appeal to that decision in writing to the Executive Director of Enrollment Services and Director of Admissions by email to admissions@sulross.edu. Appeals with be thoroughly reviewed, and if approved, students will be notified in writing of the final decision and be provided with next steps, as well as student support resources.
General Campus Regulations and Conduct
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the University’s functions as an educational institution. It is also expected that all students who enroll at Sul Ross State University agree to assume the responsibilities of citizenship in the university community. Association in such a university community is purely voluntary, and any student may resign from it at any time when he/she considers the obligation of membership disproportionate to the benefits. All students are subject to University authority, and those students whose conduct is not within the policies of the University rules and regulations are subject to dismissal. Students are responsible for abiding by all published University rules and regulations. Failure to read publications will not excuse the student from the requirements and regulations described therein. The SRSU Student Handbook and other official University publications outline specific regulations and requirements.
Privacy Rights of Students
Notice is hereby given that Sul Ross State University has adopted institutional procedures in compliance with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), assuring the right of a student to review his or her educational records upon request. Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act
SRSU is in compliance with the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act (Section 1601 of Public Law 106-386), Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act, Jenne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Sex offenders are required to register at the University Department of Public Safety in BAB 100 when the offender is employed, carries on a vocation, or is a student at SRSU.
