What is history? History is the study of the change and development of human society and its institutions over time, through inquiry and investigation. The history program at Sul Ross State University offers courses in U.S. History, Native American History, Ancient and Medieval History, European History, Latin American History, World History, and Public History, encouraging students to think critically about the past as well as the present to prepare for the future. The history faculty also sponsors a chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.
BA History Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)
- The history student will demonstrate historical research skills in a logically-organized, written paper that is mechanically correct and supported by relevant documentation of historical content. The courses to be assessed will include History 4319 19th century America and History 4320 Twentieth Century America.
- The history student will demonstrate the ability to write about topics in historiography and how those topics are interpreted. The course to be assessed will be History 3311.
- The history student will demonstrate the ability to do a comparative analysis among civilizations studied. The courses to be assessed will include History 3304 Europe 1655 to 1870 and History 3305 Europe 1870 to the present.
